Book club bonanza
SO MANY BOOKS, SO LITTLE TIME.
We don’t blog about the Asynchronous Book Club enough, IMO, so I’m fixing that with a recent-reads roundup, seeing as how we’re almost halfway through the year (omg).
For June, our reading theme is Fallout: Transgression, Defiance, & The Social Abbatoir. You know, lite and breezy (lol), and we’re choosing from a quartet of novels about failing (and failed) societies, dissolution and breakage, the gross guignol, and more:
Harrow by Joy Williams
The Transmigration of Bodies by Yuri Herrera
Space Invaders by Nona Fernández
Lapvona by Ottessa Moshfegh (from our original lineup back in January!)
Most ABC shenanigans take place over on the @littleoracles Instagram, so if you’re excited about Big Book Energy IRL, I highly recommend following on IG. But if you’ve missed those posts, or you’re just looking for a kit-and-caboodle moment, here’re our picks for the last few months:
May | Raising: The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston
April | Salt, Spells, Seasons, Stanzas: Alive at the End of the World by Saeed Jones; The Hurting Kind by Ada Limón
March | A Stitch in Time: Mindfulness, Memory, and Living in the Aftermath: Ghost Forest by Pik-Shuen Fung; Stay True by Hua Hsu; Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
February | Grief Is a Ghost: Heartbreak, Hope, and Spiritual Salvage: Heartbroke by Chelsea Bieker; The Lesser Bohemians by Eimear McBride; Ghost Lover by Lisa Taddeo
As always, check out content warnings before you jump into any of these books; we want reading to be as safe and enjoyable as possible. Happy reading!
