Cozybones
It’s that cozy time of year, post-holidays, middle-winter, and here in Seattle, our analogy might look like bright days, rain days : walk days, soup days.
My week has been filled with writing (cf. here, on IG @littleoracles, and soon-to-be-heard on episode two of the pod), plus reading: working through Maxine Hong Kingston’s The Woman Warrior for the ABC — so far, such a rich read; slow in style, but heavy with meaningful folklore — and my January in Japan pick, Weasels in the Attic by Hiroko Oyamada.
Been rouletting a ton of great music from our record collection, including the newest get: So Far, a best-of album from Sinead O’Connor, which showcases her punk / new wave / neo-grunge aesthetic so beautifully. I hadn’t really listened to her much beyond covers and the ubiquitous (because it’s fckn iconic) “Nothing Compares 2 U,” but this album converted me. Maybe it’s because I’ve been getting so wrapped up in Irish fiction, and I watched Derry Girls through veritable veils of tears, and I miss my friends who decamped to the Emerald Isle last year. Whatever the reason, So Far gets two thumbs way up.
Cuddling up in the evenings with warm stews, catching up with favorite YouTubers back from holiday breaks (I love interior designers and DIYers like The Sorry Girls, Alexandra Gater, and DIY Danie, and vloggers Elise Buch and Caroline Winkler, both of whom do interiors, too, with a heaping helping of day-in-the-life, #feelings content).
I have some home organization / New Year’s Cleaning projects peeking at me from various nooks and crannies, but for now, I’m just vibing.
What’s January look like for you?
xx, aa
